The Founding of WAPA
|
|
|
|
|
The Academy was founded by Samuel and Tanika Walton, owners
of Body and Soul Dance Center. They have combined their
love and commitment to the performing arts through dance
and music education. Samuel, composer/producer/musician;
Tanika, dance instructor/choreographer/performer have
professionally performed worldwide while instructing and
exhibiting their passion for the arts. It is the success
of their unique programs that convinced the Waltons to
evaluate the need for additional opportunities to serve
the student population of this school district. The Board
of Directors met with parents, community leaders, school
administrators and other experts for counsel and advice.
Based on the advice and comments from the public, and
direction from the Board of Directors, this proposal for
a charter school was developed.

Our Mission
|
|
To ensure each child's individual development will be
enhanced through intensive reading and literacy in a basic
core curriculum, in a way that provides integration and
exploration of dance, drama, and music into basic skills,
so that every student can achieve personal success, and
be an effective contributor in our diverse society.

Our Philosphy
|
|
The Walton Academy for the Performing Arts (WAPA) will
instruct and instill educational excellence that will
enhance the mind, body and soul. Maintaining a strong
basis for reading proficiency and other academics, the
Academy will provide an enrichment program for the development
of the performing arts in dance, music and drama. With
these tools, we will encourage creativity, imagination
and self-expression. Each student's multiple intelligences
will be activated and strengthened through WAPA's reading
and performing arts program.
